Your download has started.
Thanks for downloading!VideoLibrary 26.10.2 is saving to your Downloads folder. Installing takes about two minutes. Follow the steps below, even if you've never installed a Mac app from outside the App Store.
-
1
Unzip it
Open your Downloads folder (in the Dock, or press ⌥⌘L in Finder) and double-click VideoLibrary.zip. A VideoLibrary app appears next to it.
Safari sometimes unzips downloads for you. If you already see the app, skip to step 2.
-
2
Move it to Applications
Drag VideoLibrary onto Applications in the Finder sidebar. That keeps it with your other apps, and it shows up in Launchpad and Spotlight.
-
3
Open it the first time
VideoLibrary is free and open source, but it isn't registered with Apple (that costs $99 a year), so macOS stops it the first time with a message that it "could not verify" the app. That's expected. You only need to allow it once.
The easy way: System Settings
- Double-click VideoLibrary in Applications. When the warning appears, click Done.
- Open System Settings and choose Privacy & Security in the sidebar.
- Scroll down to Security. Next to "VideoLibrary was blocked to protect your Mac", click Open Anyway.
- Enter your Mac password (or use Touch ID), then click Open Anyway once more.
Or: one Terminal command
Open Terminal (search for it with ⌘Space), paste this and press Return. It removes the "downloaded from the internet" flag, so the app opens normally.
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/VideoLibrary.app -
4
Allow Keychain access
VideoLibrary encrypts your sign-ins with a key it keeps in your Mac's Keychain. The first time it starts, macOS asks whether it may use that key. Enter your password and click Always Allow, so it doesn't ask again.
-
5
Install the download tools
VideoLibrary uses three free tools to download video: yt-dlp, FFmpeg and Deno. In the app, open Settings (⌘,) › Tools and click Install.
This uses Homebrew. If you don't have it, paste the command from brew.sh into Terminal first, or install everything yourself:
brew install yt-dlp ffmpeg deno -
6
Add your first video
Click + in the toolbar and paste a link from YouTube, Nebula or any other supported site. Or open Suggestions and pick something from your feed.
Some features need you to sign in: your YouTube feed in Suggestions, age-restricted or members-only videos, and Nebula. Open Settings › Downloads and choose Sign In to YouTube or Import from Browser. Your sign-in is stored encrypted on your Mac.
Stuck?
- No "Open Anyway" button? It only appears for about an hour after you try to open the app. Double-click VideoLibrary again, then go back to Privacy & Security.
- "VideoLibrary is damaged and can't be opened"? Use the Terminal command in step 3. The app isn't damaged; macOS shows this for some unsigned downloads.
- A video only downloaded in 360p? YouTube is moving to a new streaming format (SABR) that the download tools don't fully support yet, so under some conditions, especially when signed in, YouTube only offers 360p. VideoLibrary downloads without your sign-in first to avoid this, and offers Re-download in HD for any 360p video. Full SABR support is coming in a future version.
- Needs macOS 26 (Tahoe) or later on an Apple silicon Mac (M1 or newer).
